Hutcheson Becomes First Full FMCSA Leader Since 2019 

The fourth acting administrator in three years, Hutcheson was confirmed by the Senate to lead trucking’s regulatory body. The new leader said she wants the agency to focus on roadway safety and closing registration loopholes for high-risk carriers.

Canada Ends Border Vaccine Mandate 

The Canadian government announced on Monday “the removal of all COVID-19 entry restrictions, as well as testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada,” including both Canadian and U.S. truckers. The move, which will be effective as of October 1, 2022, thereby ended a regulation that had caused heated, weeks-long protests to cripple the country’s capital city of Ottawa.


Biden Approves Plan for National EV Infrastructure 

The Biden-Harris Administration Tuesday approved electric vehicle infrastructure deployment plans for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico ahead of schedule under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, established and funded by President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.


California Regulators Eye Banning Diesel Big Rig Sales by 2040 

If some regulators have their way, diesel big rig sales could be banned in the state of California as early as 2040. The Los Angeles Times reports that the California Air Resource Board (CARB) is proposing regulations to end the sale of new diesel-propelled big rigs and other trucks within the next 18 years.


FMCSA Considering Electronic IDs on Trucks to Improve Roadside Inspections 

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is considering a change to its regulations to require every commercial motor vehicle operating interstate to be equipped with electronic identification technology capable of wirelessly communicating a unique ID number to federal or state motor carrier safety enforcement personnel.


The Benefits of Hiring Veterans 

A proposed bill would make it easier for veterans to get assistance for CDL programs. Industry stakeholders should be excited for this bill and for any opportunity to integrate veterans and their many skills into the trucking workforce.
