Membership Benefits Page Update
We are in the process of updating the Utah Trucking Association’s Membership Benefits page. This is a document that Is available on our website and something we share with current and potential members to help inform them of all the benefits they can receive from the association.
I want to give any member that is interested to share any discounts or benefits they have for active UTA members. FMCSA Warning: Drivers Who Drug-Test Positive Will Lose CDLs
Federal trucking regulators have issued a warning that late next year truck drivers who test positive for drug use will not only be placed on prohibited driving status, but will lose their commercial driver licenses and not be issued learning permits until they complete the federal return-to-work process.
ATA Projects Continued Growth of Truck Freight
The American Trucking Associations projects truck tonnage will grow to 14.2 billion tons by the year 2034, which the association said secures the industry’s position as the dominant mover of goods in the United States. That’s according to ATA’s new Freight Transportation Forecast 2023 to 2034.
Biden to Convene New Supply Chain Council, Announce 30 Steps to Strengthen US Logistics
President Joe Biden on Monday, Nov. 27, will convene the first meeting of his supply chain resilience council, using the event to announce 30 actions to improve access to medicine and needed economic data and other programs tied to the production and shipment of goods.
Important Clean Truck Check Announcement
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has posted a Reporting Database webpage. This webpage contains a link to the California Clean Truck Check, Vehicle Inspection System (CTC-VIS) Portal, reporting database guidance, fact sheet, and walkthrough training video. Any vehicle subject to Clean Truck Check must be reported in the database by December 31, 2023. The annual compliance fee of $30 for each reported vehicle must be paid by December 31, 2023. After a Nov. 13 hearing in a federal district court in California, the trucking industry awaits a judge’s decision on whether or not he will grant an injunction to block AB 5’s enforcement on the trucking industry.
Proposed Driver Overtime Rule Splits Trucking Stakeholders
The Guaranteeing Overtime for Truckers Act could improve driver retention and lower insurance premiums—or saddle carriers with an insurmountable financial burden. The Guaranteeing Overtime for Truckers Act (GOT Act) would repeal the motor carrier provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, according to a release from Sen. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass. The proposal is in response to a 2022 Freight and Logistics Supply Chain Assessment from the Department of Transportation, itself a response to a 2021 Executive Order to assess U.S. supply chains.
Federal Officials Mull Adding Fentanyl to Drug Test Panel
A federal drug testing advisory board will begin discussions next month on possibly adding a testing panel for fentanyl to drug test drivers and other federal safety-sensitive employees for the potentially deadly drug.
CVSA Announces 2024 Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance announced the dates for its Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative program for 2024. The annual five-day human trafficking awareness, outreach, identification and prevention initiative aims to educate commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers and the general public about the crime of human trafficking.
